Asking Why Depression Hurts So Completely

By Jure Delavec

The hurt you feel when you are depressed is more than just sadness or feelings of malaise. The signs that present themselves are certainly things to look at but at its worst, depression hurts and it is a real hurt throughout the body. In order to understand it properly there are some things that need to be learned so that it makes sense.

Feeling like you do not want to do anything and having a huge urge to sleep all of the time are signs that you may be depressed. These things will happen early on and should not be ignored. When you are feeling this way, it is very hard to stay awake or stay interested in anything that is going on around you. This is one of the first signs that something is not going right.

A person may develop headaches that are otherwise unexplainable. This happens because of the pressure and stress of thinking can cause when someone becomes unreasonable or confused as to what is going on around them or with them. Often times there is nothing that can be done, aside from taking aspirin or its equivalent, to get rid of the pain.

Body aches and pains are symptoms that people with depression often complain about. Clenching of the jaw can make your teeth and jaw joints hurt very much. This usually can be attributed to an abundance of stress and tensing your muscles up; most times people cannot explain why their body is experiencing pain.

Other pain that is caused by being depressed often has nothing to do with the body. People who are suffering from this disease often lash out for no apparent reason, making others around them have hurtful feelings towards the person. This is hurtful on so many levels, some of which can be described as physical pain.

Going to a doctor to find different methods of treating the feelings of being depressed is a good thing to do. They will often prescribe mood altering medication so that you can function properly and allow your body to get back on track. They will also suggest that you see a therapist so you can understand and fix the reasons why you feel this way.

It does not matter how or why it is happening because depression hurts on so many levels. If you know someone who is suffering from this terrible disease, you should do what you can to help them seek the medical attention they can benefit from. Encourage them to take an active part in their recovery and support them so they can learn and grow from the situation they are in.
