Medical coding is the very carefully defined procedure that hospitals, doctors offices, and clinics must follow to submit any sort of insurance claim to your insurance company. Before you get down to actually begin your training, you should try and define your career goals first. Do you want to work for someone else, or would you like to be self-employed? You may even be able to snag a work at home job when employed by a clinic or hospital. The training program that you apply to will probably specialize in one of these paths or another. If you just want to work for a hospital, for example, then avoid the centers that focus on setting up your own business.
Once you have found the correct institution, and you get accepted, you are well on your way. Be sure to take advantage of the classes they offer, and to be as proactive as you can about beginning a career. You will be making a good income in no time.
