By Anne Scots

Even at an early age we learned that it literally hurts to swallow if we have tonsillitis. Others say that we get sore tonsils if we consume too many sweets or take too cold drinks, but tonsillitis is actually either a bacterial infection or a viral infection. Children and young people are more vulnerable to get tonsillitis, although anyone can have it. And while it is a common condition, it is fortunately not life-threatening or deadly. It can leave after a few days even without medical cure, provided that it has no complications. But if you want to speed up your recovery or to alleviate the pain, you can do self-treatment at home.

If you have bacterial infection, you can cure your tonsillitis by drinking antibiotics. For viral infection, you can reduce your pain and finally eradicate it by preparing natural home cures.

Other common gargle mixtures are the fenugreek seeds solution and the mustard powder gargle solution. Prepare the fenugreek seeds by boiling it with water. Let the mixture to cool down before gargling it. As for the mustard powder mixture, mix the powder with hot water. Gargle it to clean out the infection-causing germs in the tonsils.

Turmeric has great anti-bacterial and anti-viral components that can heal irritated tonsils. You can take it by heating turmeric powder with milk or, if you are not a milk drinker, you can simply prepare a paste solution by mixing turmeric roots with hot water. Use this applying it around your throat externally.

Drinking hot teas with honey are also helpful cure for tonsillitis, as well as drinking vegetable juices. Stay hydrated by drinking ice-cold beverages to help numb the throat. Also, as true with other diseases, stay away from irritants like cigarette smoke during recuperation period.
