HPV And Genital Warts: Treatment Options

By James Melbourne

The cause of genital warts is the human papillomavirus, or HPV. Those infected with this virus have outbreaks of wart-like bumps in their genitals. This virus is transmitted from one person's skin to another's during sexual intercourse. HPV is the commonest STD today. If you have had sexual intercourse with more than two people without a condom, it is likely that you have been exposed to HPV. It may take days, months or years before you experience an outbreak or show any symptoms at all.

Most of the HPV And Genital warts that are caused by the virus are relatively harmless. At the very least, they are uncomfortable and unsightly. However, there are some strains that produce high risk warts which have been identified as a cause of cervical cancer. For this reason, women who have been exposed to HPV should have a PAP smear every 6 months. You may have contracted the virus but have no outwardly visible signs. You may experience tiny bumps, rashes or actual warts in your genital areas. They can appear as clusters of warts, or as a single one.

Warts can take up to three years to show up on your body once you have been infected. This is the reason why, if you are susceptible to them, that you should maintain caution when using public hand towels, having multiple sexual partners and even during general daily activity. There are times that they will go away on their own, but keep in mind that HPV is in incurable virus and once you have it, you will always have it. The difference is, in some people the virus lays dormant.

There is no real understanding why some warts go away by themselves and others must be surgically removed. However, what we do understand is they can be a thorn in your side. With a treatment like a cream with green tea oil infused into it, you can use it three times a day to help it go away and remove the side effects of it.
